Our Story

More Than a Restaurant

Food Corner Was Born from a Family Table

In 2010, Priya and Nimal Perera opened the doors of a modest twelve-table eatery on Galle Road with a single conviction: that good food should feel like home. They were not trained chefs. They were home cooks — devoted parents who had spent decades feeding family and friends with food that carried memory and warmth.

That spirit never left the kitchen. Today, Food Corner seats over eighty guests and has welcomed thousands of families through its doors — yet every dish is still prepared with the same unhurried care and fresh ingredients the Pereras insisted on from day one.

We are not chasing trends. We are simply cooking food we believe in, for people who deserve it.

Our Core Values

🌿

Farm to Table

Our vegetables arrive from partner farms in Nuwara Eliya each morning. Freshness is not a buzzword — it's our baseline.

🤝

Community First

We employ from the neighbourhood, source from local suppliers, and give back through our monthly community meals programme.

🔥

Craft Over Speed

Our sauces simmer for hours. Our dough rests overnight. There are no shortcuts in our kitchen — ever.

🌏

Honest Flavours

We respect tradition while remaining curious. Sri Lankan warmth meets Mediterranean technique in every dish we serve.

♻️

Sustainable Kitchen

Zero-waste cooking practices, compostable packaging, and renewable energy — our responsibility to the island we love.

❤️

Warm Hospitality

From the moment you walk in, you're a guest — not a customer. We remember regulars by name and favourite orders.

Fourteen Years of
Growing Together

2010

The First Twelve Tables

Priya and Nimal open Food Corner in a rented space on Galle Road with a hand-written menu and twelve tables borrowed from family.

2013

Our First Chef Partnership

Chef Rohan Mendis joins the team, introducing Mediterranean technique and elevating the menu to its first iteration of what guests love today.

2016

The Big Move

Food Corner relocates to a larger space — still on Galle Road — seating 80 guests across two floors with a new open kitchen design.

2019

The Stone Pizza Oven

We import a hand-built stone oven from Italy. Our pizza menu launches — and instantly becomes the most ordered section on the card.

2022

Community Meals Programme

Monthly free community meals begin for families in the neighbourhood — something the Pereras had dreamed about since day one.

2024

Farm Partnership Expanded

We partner with three additional farms, achieving 90% locally-sourced produce across our full menu. A milestone we're very proud of.
